Ethereum ETF Decision Delayed to November
SEC Postpones Decision on Ethereum ETF Options
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided to delay its decision on the approval of options trading for spot Ethereum ETFs. Initially expected by the end of September, the new deadline has been pushed to November 10-11. This move comes days after the SEC approved options trading for the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) on Nasdaq.
The delay reflects the SEC’s cautious approach, as seen in their recent approval of IBIT options after an extensive eight-month review. The regulatory body is addressing concerns about market manipulation and regulatory risks, which have been key issues in the crypto markets.
Polymarket Betting Against New Ethereum All-Time High
Following the SEC’s announcement, prediction market Polymarket has seen a significant shift in betting odds regarding Ethereum reaching a new all-time high (ATH). Currently, 85% of bets on Polymarket believe Ethereum will not hit a new ATH by 2024, compared to 71% the previous week. Only 14% of bets are for a new ATH, with less than 1% expecting it within the next five days.
Interestingly, the 1% betting on a new ATH in Q3 had the highest overall betting value at $1.23 million, followed closely by a $1.07 million collective bet from the 85% group betting against a new ATH in 2024.
Ethereum Price Stagnates Between $2,600 and $2,700
Despite a 15% rally over the last two weeks, Ethereum’s price has plateaued between $2,600 and $2,700. The largest altcoin, with a market cap of $316 billion, has seen over $15.7 billion in trading volume in the past 24 hours.
Traders are expected to take profits around this range, with potential price drops to liquidity lows at $2,500. The relative strength index (RSI) has reached an overbought region above 70, indicating that short-term selling pressure could increase in the coming days.
Market Sentiment and Future Outlook
The current market sentiment around Ethereum is one of cautious optimism mixed with uncertainty. While the delay in the SEC’s decision on Ethereum ETF options has tempered expectations, the significant trading volume and market cap demonstrate continued interest and activity in the altcoin.
Traders and investors should stay vigilant and conduct their own research, as the crypto market remains highly volatile and subject to rapid changes.
