Solo Bitcoin Miner Earns $180,000 Reward for Solving Block

Bitcoin Miner Solves Block Solo, Earns $180,000

Achievement of a Solo Bitcoin Miner

A solitary Bitcoin miner has accomplished an extraordinary task by processing a block independently, securing a reward of approximately $180,000. This event is rare due to the immense hash power requirements needed to mine Bitcoin blocks.

Details of the Solo Mining Feat

On September 10, Block 860749 was mined, containing 5,935 transactions. The miner was rewarded with 3.169 Bitcoin (BTC), valued around $182,505, which was awarded to the Solo CK mining pool. This pool combines the hash rates of several smaller miners but grants the entire reward to the individual who successfully solves the block.

Hashrate and Mining Power

The successful miner utilized 629 petahashes of hash power, representing a mere 0.098% of the total hash power securing the Bitcoin blockchain, which stood at 644.91 exahashes per second (EH/s) at the time. The Bitcoin hash rate had recently reached a new all-time high of 742 EH/s on September 1, a 62% increase from the previous year.

Challenges for Solo Miners

With the rise in the hash rate, miners must deploy more computational power, leading to higher energy costs and longer verification and transaction times. This makes it exceedingly challenging for solo miners to validate a block. Since Bitcoin’s inception in 2009, only 290 blocks out of 859,000 have been solved by solo miners.

Dominance of Large Mining Firms

Large mining companies like Bit Digital, Riot Blockchain, and Marathon Digital typically validate most blocks due to their substantial hash power. In contrast, the Solo CK pool has managed to solve 14 blocks in the past year, earning 59.3 Bitcoin, worth $3.4 million. On August 30, another miner from the Solo CK pool processed a block, earning nearly $200,000.

Recent Solo Mining Successes

A notable event occurred on July 25 when a solo miner from Solo CK solved block 853,742, receiving a reward of around $210,000. These instances highlight the rare but possible success of solo miners in the competitive Bitcoin mining landscape.

Conclusion

Solo mining remains a challenging endeavor due to the increasing hash rate and the dominance of large mining firms. However, the rare achievements of solo miners, such as the recent $180,000 reward, demonstrate that significant rewards are still attainable for those who manage to overcome the odds.
