EigenLayer’s EIGEN Token Set for Unlock
Anticipated Token Release
EigenLayer’s EIGEN token will unlock at 5:00 am UTC on Oct. 1. This marks the beginning of its trade on exchanges such as Binance and Bitfinex.
Market Predictions
Since its launch in May, EIGEN has been nontransferable. However, derivative markets suggest a strong debut, with trading data from decentralized perpetual exchanges indicating a price of around $4 per token.
Trading Dynamics
EIGEN-linked perpetual futures, known as “perps,” have shown steady price increases in September, doubling from lows of about $2 per token. Exchanges Aevo and Hyperliquid report 24-hour trading volumes summing up to around $1 million. This volume may not fully capture the token’s market dynamics.
Early Market Activity
In informal OTC trades, EIGEN’s price has risen from around $2 in August to roughly $3.50 by late September. Early trades post-airdrop in May saw prices as high as $10 per token, according to insiders.
Collateral and Rewards
Tokenholders of EIGEN can benefit as more protocols start paying EigenLayer’s restakers. These restakers deposit tokens as collateral to secure other networks in what EigenLayer terms “actively validated services” (AVS).
Total Value Locked
As of Sept. 30, EigenLayer has nearly $12 billion in total value locked (TVL), according to DefiLlama. EigenDA, an affiliated AVS, started paying restakers in Ether (ETH) and EIGEN rewards in August. Other AVS like Arpa Network are following suit.
Future Prospects
The ecosystem surrounding EigenLayer appears robust, with over 60 AVS building on its platform. Some analysts predict that EigenLayer, often likened to “AWS for decentralized services,” will achieve a higher valuation than current market predictions suggest.
EigenLayer’s EIGEN token unlock is a significant event in the cryptocurrency market. With its scheduled trading on major exchanges and the backing of various AVS, it is poised for a notable impact.
