Is the ETH/BTC Pair Ready for a Turnaround as Ethereum Lags Behind Bitcoin?

Ethereum’s Struggle Against Bitcoin: A Detailed Analysis

ETH/BTC Market Dynamics

Ethereum has been lagging behind Bitcoin for quite some time. The second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap recently hit a 3.5-year low against Bitcoin. The main question is whether this low point is a buying opportunity or if Ethereum will continue its downward trend.

Bitcoin has been trading within a narrow range for several months. Some analysts predict that it will break out and reach new highs by the year’s end. In contrast, there is less optimism surrounding Ethereum. According to Polymarket, an 85% chance exists that Ethereum will not set a new all-time high in 2024.

However, not all outlooks are pessimistic. Bitwise Asset Management’s Chief Investment Officer recently suggested that Ethereum could be a “contrarian bet” for the remainder of the year.

To understand the potential for a turnaround, we need to delve into the price analysis of the ETH/BTC pair.

Weekly Price Analysis of ETH/BTC

On the weekly chart, the ETH/BTC pair shows a symmetrical triangle pattern, indicating a stalemate between bulls and bears. Bulls are defending the support line, while bears are holding the resistance line.

Both moving averages are trending down, and the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is near the oversold zone, indicating bearish control. If the pair drops to the support line, buyers are expected to step in. A rebound from the support line and a break above the moving averages could prolong the pair’s stay within the triangle. A breakout on either side of the triangle will likely trigger the next significant move. A rally above the triangle could propel the pair to a target of 0.18 BTC, surpassing its current all-time high of 0.15 BTC.

Daily Price Analysis of ETH/BTC

On the daily chart, the ETH/BTC pair has been trading within a descending channel, forming a series of lower highs and lower lows.

A slight positive for Ethereum bulls is the RSI’s positive divergence and the flattening of the 20-day exponential moving average (EMA) at 0.04 BTC. This suggests that selling pressure may be easing. A break and close above the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) at 0.04 BTC would signal the beginning of a move toward the channel’s downtrend line. The pair will indicate a trend change if it breaks and closes above the channel.

However, this optimistic view will be invalidated if the price continues to drop and falls below 0.038 BTC, which could drive the pair to the channel’s support line.

Conclusion

Ethereum has been underperforming Bitcoin, but several indicators suggest a potential turnaround. While both moving averages and RSI point to bearish control, a rebound off the support line could change the dynamics. Investors should keep an eye on key levels and market signals to make informed decisions.
